Empathetic
Teacher-Mentors at Healthy Planet are incredibly skilled, flexible and enthusiastic. They understand the differences in the developmental stages of each child in their classroom and can relate and empathise with the struggle that children face between being dependent and wanting to be independent.
High Moral Character
Children at this age are impressionable, so our teachers demonstrate and demand respect and consideration from each child in their interactions, environment and scheduling. At the same time they consistently show each child how to act appropriately with each other and in the environment.
Flexible
Our Teacher-Mentor’s enthusiasm is a positive influence on children's attitudes toward learning and school. They truly listen to the ideas and suggestions of the children and can adapt to their interests even when those interests stray from a planned activity. They provide consistent feedback and encouragement so children get excited and stay excited about what they're learning.
Skilled
All Healthy Planet teachers benefit from our extensive training and professional development support programs. They go through a comprehensive training program that gives them the understanding of our standards and curriculum, as well as explore child development issues. They work with trainers, members of our experienced Education Team, other teachers and also on their own, to ensure they have all the tools necessary to be the kind of teacher you expect and we demand. No matter how new or experienced they are, all of our teachers have access to myriad professional development opportunities through our in-house Content Developers and Trainers.
Parent Education
From time to time, we provide parents with resource material to help them understand child development and hence become more informed. We also organise Parent Orientations & Workshops periodically.
Portfolio Based Assessment
A portfolio is a collection of student work that assists the student and teacher to judge the student's learning progress. Samples of work to be included may be selected by the student, by the teacher, or both by the student and teacher in consultation.
Copies of worksheets, assessments of individual & group projects, assessment of the skills, Observation Checklists and Rating Scales are all examples of items that will be included in portfolios. In addition, samples of students' day- to-day work will also become part of the portfolio. Samples of work completed on an individual basis may be included along with work completed in groups. This portfolio will be put on display for parents during the open house held at the end of each monthly theme unit.
Comprehensive Evaluation
Student evaluation will occur at two stages throughout the year;
1. Formative Evaluation
Formative Evaluation is a continuous classroom process that keeps students, parents/caregivers and teachers informed of students' progress toward curriculum objectives. This includes regular correction of worksheets, assessment of individual & group projects.
2. Summative Evaluation
Summative Evaluation occurs at the end of an instructional theme. The primary purpose of this kind of evaluation is to determine what knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes have developed over a period of time and to summarize student progress. It will take place once a month.
“Progress Meet” at the completion of each theme
The students & staff of Healthy Planet will organise a “Progress Meet” for parents and guardians at the end of each theme unit. These meetings serve a dual purpose. Firstly, it gives the parents a chance to interact with the Teacher-Mentor and discuss the child's periodic progress. Secondly, it provides an opportunity for students to display their work, be it an art project, a clay model or a theatre performance.
